For the first time since 2002, Roger Federer will not be in a Grand Slam final in a calendar year. No. 19 Tommy Robredo upset five-time US Open champion Federer in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3, 6-4, on Monday inside Louis Armstrong Stadium.

It was the first time the Spaniard beat the No. 7 seed in 11 career matches. He will take on countryman Rafael Nadal, with the world No. 2 beating Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-1 later on in the evening.
